Auburn Football: Hugh Freeze Named Head Coach

Auburn Taps Former Ole Miss Coach

5-Time Region 8-AA Coach of the Year

Auburn University has announced the hiring of Hugh Freeze as its new head football coach. Freeze, who was born on September 27, 1969, comes to Auburn after a successful stint at Ole Miss. He led the Rebels to four bowl games in five seasons and won the 2015 Southeastern Conference Western Division title.

Upside on the Field, Risk Off It

Freeze's hiring brings both upside and risk to Auburn. On the field, he is considered an offensive mastermind who can develop quarterbacks and receivers. However, he also comes with baggage. In 2017, he was fired from Ole Miss after an NCAA investigation found that he had committed multiple violations, including an inappropriate relationship with a female staff member.

Despite the risks, Auburn is betting on Freeze's upside. The Tigers are hoping that he can replicate the success he had at Ole Miss and turn Auburn into a perennial contender in the SEC.
